County girls prep for World Series

The Covington County 8U softball All-Star team has arrived in Jensen Beach, Fla., and are now preparing for Sunday’s first game of the 2017 Babe Ruth 8U World Series.
On Thursday, the team left in the afternoon to make the eight-plus hour drive to Jensen Beach.
The teams met some of the other teams at Friday’s orientation ceremony and then attended the World Series Media Day.
Things get started on the field for the Covington County 8U All-Stars on Saturday when the will play in a practice game to get ready for the actual event.
Covington County 8U All-Stars will take on Palatka Lady Stingrays today at 2:45 p.m., for their practice game.
The actual tournament will begin on Sunday with pool play.
The Covington County 8U All-Stars will take on the Prairie Village All-Stars on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Pool play will continue on Monday when the Covington County 8U All-Stars battle with Mays Landing at 11 a.m.
The Covington County 8U All-Stars will wrap up pool play when they take on the Bloomingdale Comets on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Teams will then be seeded based on their pool play performance.
The teams will then begin a double-elimination style tournament on Wednesday to determine the World Series champion.
The tournament will go until Aug. 4 when the 8U World Series champions will be crowned.
