Family Endeavors will hold a veterans assistance day in Covington County next month.

The event will be held at the Covington County Administration building’s conference room on Hillcrest Drive in Andalusia.

The event is for low-income veterans.

Family Endeavors serves more than 16,000 clients each year providing services that target homelessness, unemployment, child abuse, foster care, disabilities, childcare, education, disasters, independent living, and counseling.

Veterans services are provided to very low income veteran families; veterans facing eviction and veterans currently homeless and scheduled to move into housing within 90 days.

Melinda Maughn of Family Endeavors’ Montgomery office said the goal of this event is to bring awareness to the county of the organization.

“We have been in Alabama for four years,” she said. “Our program is the first housing program. We work strictly with veterans, and assist those veterans who are homeless.”

Maughn said they work with veterans through case management to help them find employment, register with the Veterans Affairs office and monitor their claims.

“We provide them with financial services,” he said. “We have a money management person who helps veterans work through their budge and expenses and how to maintain sustainability.”

For resources, they don’t have Maughn said they scout and navigate the community for those resources.

The event is set for Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Items to bring include: DD214 or statement of service; photo ID for everyone over 18; current utility bills you are requesting assistance for; Social Security card for each person in the household; rent lease agreement; proof of income.
