Mary Catherine Elmore Wilson, 84, died Mon., Aug. 7, 2017.

The family will receive friends at Foreman Funeral Home at 6 tonight, Tues., Aug. 8. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wed., Aug. 9, at Bethany Baptist Church.

 

 

 

June Ann Haines Smith

Mrs. June Ann Haines Smith, of Andalusia, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 2, 2017, a few days after celebrating her 85th birthday.

Several generations of Andalusians can remember her reading the voices of Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher in her sixth grade classes at Andalusia Middle School. Others around town and at First Baptist Church can remember her bright red hair, dangling earrings, and colorful clothes. She was easy to pick out in the FBC choir. “My favorite color is all colors,” she would say.

She loved all beautiful things. She would travel hours to acquire a pretty plant. She loved beautiful classical and sacred music, from her years playing piano and organ on TV and radio. As an infant, she was chosen “Most Beautiful Baby” in Charlotte, N.C.

After graduating from Bob Jones University, she married York Smith, with whom she and their children travelled the world for the U.S. Air Force. They lived in the Azores, Belgium, Massachusetts, and Nebraska, making friends, inspiring children, and learning languages everywhere she went.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two children and their spouses,  five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren as “Grandmommy,” and as someone who read her Bible and prayed for each of thexm every day.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Mon., Aug. 7, 2017, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Montgomery officiating. Interment was in Rawls Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday at Foreman Funeral Home.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Wanda Smith of San Diego, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Neal Dansby of Red Level; five grandchildren, Amber Michelle Smith, William York Smith, Jr., Eric Howell Smith, Elliott O’Neal Dansby, and Judith Anne Dansby Fick; and five great-grandchildren, Amara Geneva Aponte, William York Smith III, Charlotte Nell Dansby, Hazel Avery Smith, and Otto G Smith.

Pallbearers will include Steve Thomas, Max Thomas, Mike Moore, Kim Dyess, Duane Mooney, William Worley, Ziba Anderson, and Joe McDanal. Honorary pallbearers include Bill Law, Randy Seale, and Gordon Vickers.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.
