The recruiters at the U.S. Army Recruitment Center in Andalusia are always looking for ways to get recruits in shape and they have teamed up with Crossfit Andalusia to get that accomplished.

Crossfit Andalusia owner and trainer, Jason Kelley, said offering the training to the future soldiers was an easy decision to make.

“These are the men and women who keep us protected so that we are able to do what we do,” Kelley said. “I sleep well at night knowing my children and I are safe because we have people like John out there protecting us. We are just happy that we are able to give them.”

“Crossfit Andalusia has partnered with us to get our new recruits in shape after they have enlisted,” Sgt. Stefan Thomas said. “Some of the young men and women that come through here don’t know how to get physically fit, or don’t have the motivation to do it on their own. Crossfit Andalusia has helped them find that outlet.”

Thomas said that he joined Crossfit Andalusia several months ago and saw what it did for him, and that’s when he started bringing recruits with him.

“After I joined, I really saw the way that it benefited me,” Thomas said. “They have a great team at Crossfit Andalusia and they provide everything, including the nutrients.”

Thomas said that the program really helps to the future soldiers.

“It really has helped a lot of the young men and women accomplish the physical goals they have set,” Thomas said. “What they are doing for our future soldiers helps the country. It shows the community that you don’t have to put on the uniform to serve your country. This really means a great deal to us. It shows us that the community cares about us. They are helping these young men and women on the right path, and it makes our job easier. We greatly appreciate anything that the community does for us.”

Recently, Kelley has been training Brett Carr, who just signed his contract with the U.S. Army.

“We run them through the same training that we do everyone else,” Kelley said. “Brett has been going through the same process. He just has a different reason to be here than most. My trainers our good enough to make anyone reach their goals. Brett is one that has the heart and determination to reach his goals. We have pointed him in the right direction, and he keeps coming back through the door. That’s the biggest thing.”
