President Donald Trump on Tuesday night endorsed Luther Strange in Alabama’s Senate race.

In a Tuesday night tweet, the President said, “Senator Luther Strange has done a great job representing the people of the Great State of Alabama. He has my complete and total endorsement!”

Strange, who was appointed to the Senate by Gov. Robert Bentley earlier this year, is seeking the Republican nomination for the unexpired term of Jeff Sessions, who became attorney general after Trump took office. The party primaries are next Tuesday.

Strange was effusive in his praise of the president.

“I am so deeply honored and humbled to receive the endorsement and support of our President, Donald Trump. It is an honor to work hard beside him to deliver upon his promises to the American people,” he said in a statement.

“President Trump’s election and hard work has given millions of people hope again and I’m proud to stand beside him to make America great again.”
