School officials: Watch out for buses

Covington County Schools officials want drivers to use caution when they’re out on the road come Monday morning.
Transportation supervisor Ricky Messick said the county system will have 50 buses on the road covering a lot of territory throughout the county as they bus students to Florala, Red Level, Straughn, Pleasant Home and Fleeta.
“Please be on the lookout for the buses,” he said. “Buses will be making frequent stops so they don’t need to run up behind the bus and hit the back of it. They just need to be careful of that and of kids going to the side of the road.”
Alabama state law forbids drivers from passing a stopped school bus on any road. The only exception is when you’re on the opposing side of a divided highway with a median separating opposing traffic.
Andalusia and Opp began school earlier this week, and have buses on the roads as well.
