The Covington County Economic Development Commission’s top priority is to secure a tenant for the twin hangars at South Alabama Regional Airport.
Jacob Morgan of the CCEDC gave an update at the airport authority meeting Tuesday.
Morgan said that the hangars are priority one.
“We are actively seeking a tenant,” he said. “We have entered into an agreement with Ronnie Kearns for marketing.”
Morgan said that Kearns and CCEDC executive director Rick Clifton recently traveled to Norfolk, Va., to talk to someone with C-130s, and they will be attending the Hercules Conference in the near future.
He said they are constantly trying to recruit manufacturing to the county.
“It’s tough,” he said. “We are tirelessly working to recruit. We hope the economy will improve and we will have more opportunities.”
Morgan spoke in favor of a potential partnership in the county with the Alabama National Guard to bring a shared space to the Andalusia Industrial Park that can be used by the public as well as the National Guard.
Guard officials met with local officials about the possibility of a partnership last week. Morgan said that he would love to see a county-center career tech center for high school students in a central location.
“This might help us get there,” he said.
