Annual Doggie Dash set for September

The Andalusia Area Humane Society is hoping to raise $20,000 at its 13th annual Doggie Dash Day fundraiser.

The event will be held on Sat., Sept. 23, at the AAHS Estep Community Dog Park on Pearl St. at 9 a.m.

Participation is $10 per dog, and all registration forms must be filled out by Sept. 19.

Included in the entrance fee is an event T-shirt, all doggie events, pet photos, a goodie bag, face painting, refreshments and door prizes.

The doggie events are for the waggiest tail, Strut Your Mutt “Best Costume” Walk, best doggie trick, best doggie bark, and the new agility course.

This is the only sponsored event that is held throughout the year, for the Humane Society, which relies solely on fundraisers and donations to pay for utilities, insurance, shelter, medicine, vaccinations and its low-cost spay/neuter program for at risk pets in Andalusia and Covington County.

On average, the Humane Society’s facility houses eight dogs and 16 cats, Andalusia Area Humane Society president Debra Evans said.

Currently, it is holding five dogs and seven kittens.

“The sponsorships mean everything to us as we strive to create a vibrant animal welfare and adoption center for Andalusia and Covington,” Evans said. “When we get animals we have the whole process completed so that they are ready to go to a home. We want to take animals that don’t have a chance and try to give them a future.”

The non-profit Humane Society’s sponsorships directly benefit the whole community and the animals in need.

Registration forms can be found at the Humane Society, local veterinarian offices, or online at www.andalusiahumanesociety.org/doggie-dash-2/.
