A fire on Wagon Wheel Road resulted in a total loss to a singlewide home in Dozier yesterday, Gantt Area Fire and Rescue Chief Scott Fight said.

“The structure is still there,” Fight said. “It burnt through the kitchen, living room, and ceiling, and everything else inside is basically gone.”

Fight said the call was made after the family in the home had seen smoke coming from the kitchen area, although they have no knowledge of what exactly started the fire.

Fight’s crew was assisted by the Dozier Volunteer Fire Department, Advanced EMS and the Covington County Sheriffs Department.

“We had both of our engines and a brush truck, and Dozier brought one of their engines and two brush trucks,” Fight said.

He said he appreciated all of the volunteers who came out and assisted in the fight, which took about an hour and a half.

“After putting the flames out we had to find all of the hot spots inside the walls,” Fight said. “We were there for about an hour and a half working and securing the home.”
