Friends and business associates gathered Friday morning to celebrate the 102nd birthday of Martha Dixon. Mrs. Dixon remains a part of the Solon and Martha Dixon Foundation, and is very interested in current events. During WWII, she joined the WACS, and worked with countless other women who monitored the weather and provided forecasts to ships at sea and American airmen all over the world. Asked just before her 100th birthday if she expected to live this long, she said, “No. When I was 40, I didn’t think I’d live to see 45.”         Michele Gerlach/Star-News
