The No. 4-ranked Andalusia Bulldogs (1-1) are eager to open up Class 4A, Region 1 play tonight when they host Monroe County (2-0) in Andalusia.

“This biggest thing is that we want to see improvement,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said. “That’s the case every week. We want to be a little bit better than we were the week before.”

The series between the two schools is currently tied 10-10-1, but the Bulldogs have won eight of the past nine games, including a 50-6 win in Monroe County last year.

“They are going to be a tough team,” Taylor said. “The toughest thing about them is that they just have athletes all over the place”

When Monroe County is on offense, Taylor said they will line in multiple formations.

“They mix it up a lot on offense,” Taylor said. “One play they will run out of empty and then the next they are running two-tight. I haven’t seen them running any option, but they run with downhill power.”

Taylor said that Monroe County quarterback is someone that the Bulldogs must focus on.

“The young kid that have playing quarterback has as good of an arm that we will see all season,” Taylor said. “He is a special player and he has receivers that are able to go up and get the ball.”

On defense, Taylor said Monroe County likes to play the run.

“They are going to put a lot of guys in the box,” Taylor said. “That is something that have always done. They stack bodies in the box and play lock up man on the corners. They pretty much dare you to throw the ball, but they have the athletes to be able to do that.”

Andalusia and Monroe County kickoff tonight at 7 p.m., at Andalusia High School.
