The City of Andalusia is opening the Adult Activity Center as a shelter beginning at noon today, Mon., Sept. 11.
Mayor Earl Johnson said those seeking refuge should bring their own bedding and snacks. The shelter will close at noon tomorrow.
“This is strictly for people who feel unsafe in their living quarters,” Johnson said. “We may get some winds later on this afternoon, and we want everyone to be safe.”
The city does not have bedding available, he said, and is not prepared to feed evacuees. There is water available.
Johnson said Andalusia Full Gospel Tabernacle opened Sunday to accommodate those fleeing the storm, and many of those are starting home now. There also were a number of people who evacuated in motor homes who were in residence at the Kiwanis Community Center, and in the Walmart parking lot.
