The Troy Trojans started off slow, but were able to come away with 34-7 win over the Alabama State Hornets on Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy.
Troy’s defense forced a punt to start the game, and the offense drove down the field for the game’s first score.
The Trojans nearly fumbled the ball away on the drive, but officials reviewed the play and ruled Troy’s Brandon Silvers down before the ball came out.
Additionally, the officials assessed the Hornet’s with Dennis Roberts with a targeting penalty and ejected him from the contest.
A few plays later, Jordan Chunn rushed in from 3 yards out for his first of three touchdowns in the game.
Troy’s next drive looked promising, but a Silvers pass was intercepted by ASU’s Ronnie Scott and returned 80 yards for a touchdown to tie the game 7-7.
The score remained tied until the second quarter when Chunn burst through the Hornets’ defense line and powered his way for a 15-yard score.
Troy attempted a two-point conversion, but failed to convert.
After another stop by the Trojan defense, sophomore transfer Jamarious Henderson scored his first career touchdown for the Trojans when he tiptoed down the home sideline for a 12-yard touchdown.
The Trojans added to their lead in the third quarter when Chunn found the end zone from 3 yards out for this third rushing touchdown of the game.
Henderson would add his second rushing touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter to help give the Trojans a 34-7 victory.
