Wicksburg shuts out Opp

The Opp Bobcats couldn’t’ find any momentum as they fell 41-0 on Friday night in Class 3A, Region 2 contest against Wicksburg on the road.

Both teams forced punts on their first possession.

The Panthers got on the board with five minutes to go in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.

After Opp’s punt was blocked, Wicksburg was given a short field late in the first half giving the Panthers a 13-0 halftime lead.

Wicksburg stopped Opp on downs on the Bobcats’ first drive of the second half. Wicksburg was again given a short field and scored two plays later for a 20-0 lead. After recovering an accidental onside kick the Panthers scored their fourth touchdown of the game for a 27-0 lead.

Wicksburg’s final two scores of the game came on the first plays after Opp’s next two punts. The Panthers led 41-0 after three quarters.

After no scoring in the fourth quarter, Wicksburg won the 41-0.

Dacarmeyen Hines carried the ball seven times for 73 yards to lead the Bobcats on the ground.

Hal Smithart was 9-of-17 passing for 97 yards.

Shawn Tillis caught two passes for 44 yards receiving.

“It was a hard loss and it’s a gut check for us,” Opp head coach Brent Hill said. “Wicksburg played really well and was more physical.  We just need to learn from the mistakes and start gaining experience and confidence.”
