The Opp City Council on Monday night went along with the zoning board’s recommendation to deny an Opp man’s request to rezone his property on Opine Road to start a business.

The council tabled the recommendation at its first meeting of the month to see if they could work out something since they didn’t want to turn down a business.

Residents attended the meeting earlier this month and voiced both concerns and support for the business.

Wayne Wood, who ran for mayor last fall, said it was his goal was to put a bait shop and sell RV supplies.

Residents voiced their concerns for traffic and land depreciation if the property was rezoned.

District 2 councilwoman Charlotte Hunt made the motion to accept the zoning board’s motion and District 2 councilman Chad Jackson seconded it. It passed unanimously.
