Mom hits child’s face with belt buckle, charged

An Opp woman was arrested Thursday after she allegedly struck a child in the face with a belt buckle.
Opp Police Assistant Chief Kevin Chance said Friday the incident took place Monday during the morning hours.
On Thursday, OPD arrested 34-year-old Damika M. Caldwell, in a case worked by OPD investigators and the Department of Human Resources.
Caldwell was arrested and charged with torture/willful abuse of a child.
In Alabama, torture/willful abuse of a child is a Class C felony.
If convicted, Caldwell faces a sentence range of one year and one day up to 10 years in prison, and fines up to $15,000.
She is being held in the Covington County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
