VICTOR KEITH MOSLEY

Victor Keith Mosley, 64, of Dozier, died Fri., Sept. 29, 2017, after a brief illness at Southeast Memorial Healthcare Center, Dothan.

Victor was born July 30, 1953, in Reidsville, N.C. He was an over the road truck driver teaming with his wife, Kim. During his time home he enjoyed fishing, cruising the lake on his boat, and visiting friends at a local diner.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Kim (Dunn); daughter, Candice (Shawn) Mahoney; grandson, Aaron; granddaughter, Aliyah; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Rhumell Nee’ Hamlett Mosley; brother, Butch Mosley; and uncles Thomas, Roy and Charles Hamlett.

A private viewing will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Fri., Oct. 6, 2017 ,followed by a graveside memorial on Oct. 7, 2017, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Reidsville, N.C.

 

RONALD R. PITTS

Ron was born in 1949 in Andalusia. His parents, Ray (John R. Pitts) and Dolly Thompkins were married in 1947, after Ray returned from duty in North Africa during WWII.

Ron attended school in Andalusia, played baseball and basketball, while also playing drums in the band. He taught drum lessons on weekends and during the summer. He attended college initially on a music scholarship and played with both the New Orleans and Birmingham symphonies in the timpani and percussion sections.

After his freshman year, he reevaluated his long-term goals and attended the University of Alabama majoring in Communications. While at the university, he had several radio and TV programs. The most memorable of which included a weekly chat with football coach, Bear Bryant, evaluating the games and the strategies during football season.

Ron graduated in 1971 and worked as a manager for a national nutrition chain in Baton Rouge. He was promoted and sent to Savannah, Ga., there he met a member of the Knight family, owners of a radio station in town, and was asked to manage the station. He enjoyed the work and the opportunity to become a part of the community. After the station was sold, Ron returned to school and acquired his CPM (certified property manger) designation.

Ron eventually became the president of the property management group for Life Investors/Aegon/Transamerica. This promotion took him to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the headquarters for the group. A Southern boy used to Southern weather- did not enjoy the climate. As he often said, you didn’t need a freezer, the garage served as one.

After visiting Tucson to inspect a property for the company, he did some exploring and decided he liked the city. He made inquiries about positions in Tucson and took a job with Whitehall Capital in 1985. He met his future wife, Jane Shera, while working at Whitehall.

Ron loved to fish after he retired. He spent time in the Amazon and fished the Niger, fished both coasts of Mexico, Montana, and most particularly New Mexico; Cochti, Rio Grande, Abiqui, and even the Red River. He loved cow creek ranch in the Pecos. Ton made his home in Tucson and Santa Fe, N.M.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; his brother, Gary (John R. Pitts, Susan) of Andalusia; his children, Christopher (Debi) of San Antonio, Patrick (Jen) of Germantown, MD, Elizabeth (Marcus) and Kendree, both of Tucson. He has six grandchildren, Cameron, Philip, Faith, Trinity, Carly and Mason. His niece, Susanna Hall (Lee) and nephew Cory Pitts, both reside in Andalusia.

A memorial will be held on Oct. 4 at 11:30 a.m. at the Andalusia Country Club.

 

Debbie Jane Sormrude

Debbie Jane Sormrude of Samson, Ala., went to her heavenly home on Aug. 2, 2017, at the age of 64.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 4, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Samson, with the Rev. Sam Totten and the Rev. Charles Myers officiating. Burial will follow in the Travelers Rest Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the church on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. and continue until service time.

Mrs. Sormrude was born March 19, 1953, to the late John D. and Birdie Peters Adams at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. She had a devoted love of Christ. She was a loving and supporting wife, mother and MawMaw who loved them with all her heart. She enjoyed being involved in local politics.

Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Samson’s youth group.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Birdie Adams; and paternal and maternal grandparents.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Royce C. “Yogi” Sormrude; her children, Rhonda Cleghorn (Martin) of Andalusia, Brandi Long (Chip), Andalusia, and Erik Sormrude (Nicole) of Defuniak Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Brett and Tori Cleghorn, Madison and Meagan Long, Rylee, Ava, Emma, Kynlee and William Sormrude; one brother and one sister, and a host of special cousins and friends.

The family wishes to thank all of her health care providers that helped during her illness.
