The Opp Bobcats (2-3, 2-1) look forward to getting back to region action on Friday night when they hit the road to take on Slocomb in a Class 3A, Region 2 contest.

“It’s a region game,” Opp head coach Brent Hill said. “The kids know that these are the games that matter when it comes to making the playoffs.”

Coming into the game, Hill said that he hopes to see some improvements from his team.

“One thing that I want to see is for us to improve on the false starts and things that shoot ourselves in the foot,” Hill said. “On defense, we have to get pressure on the quarterback and we have to bend-not-break. What we can’t do is give up the big plays.”

Hill said that Slocomb will focus much of their offense on the run game.

“They are a spread team, but they are going to run the ball 70 percent of the time,” Hill said. “They have a dynamic quarterback that can run and throw the ball. When they throw the ball, they like to run vertical pass plays.”

When Slocomb is on defense, Hill said they will show multiple looks.

“They will run a 4-3 and also a 3-4,” Hill said. “We are going to see different looks and we will run or pass according to what look they are giving us at that particular time. It’s going to be an interesting adjustment.”

This week, Hill said the Bobcats have been focused on preparing for the task at hand.

“We had a good week of practice,” Hill said. “We are getting a few kids back that we have held out with injuries, and the kids are really excited about that. They are just excited to get back to playing the games that count.”

Opp holds a 3-1 lifetime-record against Slocomb, including a 59-6 victory last season.

Slocomb comes into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Kickoff between Opp and Slocomb will be at 7 p.m., Friday in Slocomb.
