A-Town still a go despite big chance of rain

There is a 80 percent chance of rain today, but Band Booster president Frank Shaffer said the group plans to proceed with it annual A-Town marching band competition, although in a slightly-changed format.

Twenty-six bands were scheduled to compete, but Shaffer said a few have cancelled. The normal time allotted for each band to get on and off the field has been shortened so that bands can get their students home ahead of potential stormy weather.

The competition will open at 11 a.m. with Luverne.

The original schedule calls for Opp High School to compete at 1:45 p.m. and Straughn High School to compete at 3:30 p.m. Each will now perform earlier.

Andalusia will perform in exhibition just before the awards ceremony, which was originally scheduled for 9:30.

Admission is $6 per person, and concessions will be available.
