BULLDOGS STOMP EAGLES: Andalusia tops W.S. Neal for region sweep

The Andalusia Bulldogs used a strong second half to knock off W.S. Neal 52-28 on Friday night’s homecoming game.
W.S. Neal got the ball to start the game and quickly marched down the field.
Marvin Maddox broke loose for a 31-yard touchdown run to put the Blue Eagles up 7-0 with 6:52 left in the opening quarter.
The Bulldogs responded with a strong drive, but the Blue Eagles forced and recovered an Andalusia fumble.
After forcing W.S. Neal to punt, the Bulldog offense went to work, and came away with three points on the following drive.
Reese Burkhardt drilled a 36-yard field goal to trim the W.S. Neal lead down to 7-3 with 13 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Bulldog defense forced another punt and then the Bulldog offense found the end zone to give Andalusia its first lead of the game.
Quarterback Ethan Wilson plunged in from 1-yard out to put Andalusia on top 10-7.
W.S. Neal answered back with a two-play drive capped by a 60-yard touchdown to retake the lead 14-10 with 7:03 left in the second quarter.
On the Bulldogs’ next play, Wilson connected with B.J. Anderson for a 42-yard gain.
A few plays later, Wilson found the end zone from 2-yards out.
Burkhardt’s extra point gave Andalusia a 17-14 lead.
Andalusia started the second half with a strong drive that was capped off by a 1-yard Caleb Smallwood touchdown to put Andalusia up 24-14.
The Bulldogs defense then forced a turnover on downs deep inside W.S. Neal territory.
The Bulldogs needed just three plays to find the end zone as Wilson hit Sebaskin Stallworth with a 9-yard touchdown.
W.S. Neal then came back with 7-yard touchdown run from Noah Hill to trim the Andalusia lead down to 31-21 with 3:27 left in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs closed out the third quarter with a scoring drive capped off by a 5-yard touchdown run from Wilson.
After forcing a punt from W.S. Neal, the Bulldogs answered with another scoring drive.
Wilson found a leaping Anderson in the end zone for a 31-yard touchdown.
The Bulldogs final touchdown came on 17-yard scamper from Elijah McClain.
W.S. Neal scored on short drive after a muffed punt by Andalusia set the Blue Eagles up inside the Andalusia 5-yard line.
“I’m proud of the way the kids played in the second half,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said. “W.S. Neal didn’t care that it was our homecoming game, and they came out and got after us. Credit goes to W.S. Neal. We may have won on the scoreboard, but they won tonight in the effort department. To accomplish the things we want to accomplish, we are going to have to come ready to play for every game.”
