Win over Daleville would give Opp sure trip to state
The Opp Bobcats (4-4, 4-2) face another major regional game when they host the Daleville Warhawks (4-4, 4-2) this week.
“This is the last regional game of the year, and it has a lot of playoff implications,” coach Brent Hill said.
A win guarantees the Bobcats a playoff berth.
“With a win, we could be No. 2 (in the region) and have a chance to host playoffs.”
The Bobcats possibly could still get a berth with a loss, but there are a lot of possibilities that factor into that potential equation, Hill said.
The Bobcats fell to Geneva last week, while the Warhawks defeated Straughn. Coach Hill hopes this trip to Covington County will end differently for Daleville, which has been the total focus for the team this week.
“We’ve really been working on Daleville this week,” Hill said. “They run a Wing T on offense. They run trap, off tackle, sweep and waggle.”
To prepare for the offense, Hill said, Opp’s coaches have been in a defense they haven’t run in about three years.
“Defensively, we’re not sure if they’ll come at us with a 3-3 or 3-4,” he said. “We’ll just have to adjust to what comes our way. We need to be ready to take what they give us.”
The Bobcats are mostly healthy, he said.
“We’ve got one kid who’s a little banged up, but he’s been able to work through practice with us.”
