Victims in fatal wreck identified

Opp Police have released the names of the victims in the Sunday afternoon wreck which claimed the lives of two women.

A 2005 Honda CR-V EX 4WD was northbound on U.S. Hwy. 331 when the driver ran a red light at the intersection of Ala. Hwy. 229, or the Opp Bypass, and struck a 2008 Hyundai Accent that was westbound and going through the intersection, according to the OPD.

OPD Assistant Chief Kevin Chance said that the driver of the 2005 Honda was 80-year-old Clyde Baxter Whisonant of Lakeland, Fla. His backseat passenger, identified as 79-year-old Sue Slocum Whisonant of Lakeland, Fla., died.

The driver of the 2008 Hyundai Accent was identified as John Wesley Williamson, 55, of Red Level.

The passenger in that car, 61-year-old Red Level resident Nancy Scott Williamson, died.

The accident remains under investigation by the OPD.
