The Opp Khelpanan Society is changing things up this year for its Christmas event.
Melissa Barnes, organizer, said that they has swapped their usual storytime with Santa event to a Breakfast with Santa event.
This year’s event will be held at the newly restored L&N Depot in Opp.
“We’ve been having a storytime with Santa,” she said. “But this year, we changed it and flipped the script. We will take pictures with Santa and also do a breakfast plate.”
Barnes said incorporating the breakfast enables the whole community to be able to participate.
“They can sit and enjoy the new depot or they may take it home with them,” she said.
Barnes said that proceeds from the event will go to help fund scholarships to area seniors.
“We were able to give four $500 scholarships for seniors,” she said. “We also have given $250 to each library.”
Barnes said they have also helped get anti-bullying information to the school groups.
The event is set for Sat., Dec. 2, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Plates are $5 each and include pancakes, sausage and drink.
Tickets are available for purchase prior to event date, but extra plates will be available the day of the event while supplies last.
