EAGLES SOAR OVER WILDCATS: Pleasant Home tops Florala in junior high action

The Pleasant Home Eagles’ junior high basketball teams picked up a pair of wins over Florala on Wednesday afternoon in Pleasant Home.

EIGHTH GRADE BOYS

PLEASANT HOME 40, FLORALA 15

In the opening game, the eighth grade Eagles surged out front and held off the Wildcats for 40-15 victory.

A steal and fast break layup from Pleasant Home’s Nick Short got the Eagles out front to start the game.

Florala responded with a 3-pointer from Conner Green to go up 3-2 early in the first period.

The Eagles powered forward closing out the period with a 5-0 run to take a 7-3 lead into the second period.

In the second period, the Eagles got a strong start with a quick bucket from Hunter Baldwin.

Back-to-back jumpers from Jordan Davis then put the Eagles up 15-3.

Florala got a pair of free throws from green at the halfway point of the second, but the Wildcats still trailed by 10 points.

The Eagles followed with a pair of buckets from Ethan Curry and then a layup from Nicholas Holley put Pleasant Home on top 23-5 at halftime.

In the third period, the Wildcats got a 3-pointer from Green, but the Eagles were able to stretch the lead up to 35-8 heading into the final frame.

The Eagles closed out the game in the fourth period for a 40-15 win.

Short led the Eagles with 12 points in the win.

Green paced the Wildcats with eight points.

GIRLS

PLEASANT HOME 32, FLORALA 15

In junior high girls action, the Lady Eagles battled for a 32-15 over the Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Wildcats took an early lead when Allyson McDonnell dropped in a quick layup.

Pleasant Home answered right back with a layup from Lexi Straughan to tie the game.

The Lady Wildcats then got a block from Chyenne Reagan and McDonnell took the ball down the court for a layup to put Florala up 4-2.

McDonnell then came up with a steal and turned it into to a 6-2 Florala lead.

The Lady Eagles bounced back with a with a jumper from Jill Hawkins.

A bucket from Brianna Knoll tied the game 6-6 heading into the second period.

The Lady Eagles came out strong in the second period with buckets from Emily Taylor, Amy Garner and Straughn to take an 18-8 lead into halftime.

Garner and Straughan each got a pair of buckets in the third period to help push the Lady Eagles to a 27-9 lead heading into the final period.

The Lady Wildcats battled back with buckets from McDonnell and Reagan, but the Lady Eagles were able to hold on for a 32-15 victory.

Straughan led the Lady Eagles with 13 points.

Garner tacked on seven points for Pleasant Home.

McDonnell was the top scorer for the Lady Wildcats with eight points.
