Two local organizations joined forces to help spread Thanksgiving blessings to local hospice patients.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Christ the King Catholic Church and the Andalusia High School Anchor Club made Thanksgiving boxes and filled them with groceries for hospice patients.

Hospice will deliver the boxes, which contained about 50 pounds of food and with a turkey or a ham.

Anchor Club member and AHS senior Zaria Jones, who has more than 200 volunteer hours, coordinated making the boxes.

“Honestly, it started out for scholarship money,” she said. “Then I started liking helping. And I may need help one day and I can’t expect them to help me if I’m not helping others.”

The two organizations started partnering four or five years ago.

AHS senior Luke Johnson also has 200 volunteer hours.

Members say that if something needs doing, they call Johnson.
