Roy Moore received 75.7 percent of the Covington County votes cast in Tuesday’s special election for the U.S. Senate seat vacated when then-Sen. Jeff Sessions became U.S. Attorney General.

Moore received 6,825 votes to Democratic challenger Doug Jones’ 2,102. There were 88 write-in votes cast.

The vote represents a 35 percent voter turnout. That means 15 percent more voters turned out for the general election than the 20 percent who voted in the August primary and the 18 percent of Covington County voters who participated in the Republican runoff in September.
