The Red Level High School Tigers boy’s basketball team held on Saturday against the G.W. Long High School Rebels 70-63 to win third place in the 21st Annual Red Level High School Christmas Tournament Saturday night.

The Tigers started out on top by taking a 5-0 lead, but the Rebels managed to take back the lead with three minutes left in the first period 7-5.

Jacob Catrett managed to tie the game up at seven with a lay up, and then the Tigers took the lead after a behind the back pass from Chance Russell makes it to Catrett, who swings it out to Kade Green who sinks a 3-pointer to make the score 10-7.

At the end of the first period, the score was 12-10 after Russell was fouled.

The Tigers opened up the second period with a boom. Cody Kelley started the scoring fiasco with a 3-pointer.

Green stole the ball from the Rebel offense and made a layup and then turned around and shot a three pointer.

Russell stole the ball again and passed it to Matthew Coleman who made two layups back to back to make the score 28-15 with 4:13 left in the half.

The Rebels managed to cut the lead 28-20 after a technical foul was called on Russell, but Green answered back with two 3-pointers and an and-one to make the score 36-27 at the end of the half.

G.W. Long got the second half started with two 3-pointers to cut the lead 38-35.

The Tigers did not let up after Green, Coleman and Russell added some layups to the score making it 48-40 at the end of the third period.

The Rebels got an and-one to start the fourth period to cut the lead 48-43, but Catrett and Russell answered with a 3-pointer and a layup to increase their lead to 53-43.

The Tigers shook the court when Russell connected with Coleman for an alley-oop and an and-one to go up 60-50 with 3:40 left in the fourth period.

Catrett charged with a layup with 55 seconds left to end the game 70-63.

Green led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points.

“I thought we played a really good defensive ball game tonight,” Head coach Allen Catrett said. “We had a good offensive game as well by scoring 70 points. I think we did all parts of the game well. We were patient on offense and we did what we had to do on defense.”

Catrett said that they will rest until next week after the tournament and then get back on the court.

“I think a game like this gives our guys confidence,” Catrett said. “But we will take off until next week and then use these tournament games as a teaching tool.”
