Free smoke alarms available in Andalusia
The Andalusia Fire Department has 100 smoke alarms available free for residences that do not have one.
Chief Russell McGlamory said Wednesday that the smoke alarms were made available through a grant received by the Alabama Fire College.
“If you don’t have a smoke alarm, you can just give us a call at 222-1121,” McGlamory said. Applications also are available at the fire station, located on Church Street, or from The Star-News’ web site.
Firefighters will actually install the alarms to ensure that they work properly, he said.
Those who receive the alarms will be asked to sign a liability waiver.
McGlamory said there is a possibility more will be available, based on the number of requests received.
