GERALD “VG” JOHNSON

Gerald “VG” Johnson, age 77, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on Feb. 16, 2018. He was a retired trial attorney and former police officer in Birmingham.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Vreeland Samuel and Lilian Gaines Johnson; and his wife of 44 years, Janet H. Johnson.

Services will be held on Sat., Feb. 24, 2018, at noon at the Jefferson Memorial Gardens Chapel. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday.

He is survived by his loving sons, Gerald Patrick (Moriah) Johnson and Michael K. Johnson; granddaughter, Mackenzie Leigh; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. JOHNNIE B. GIRDNER

Mrs. Johnnie B. Girdner, 93, of Andalusia, passed away Fri., Feb. 16, 2018, at Andalusia Manor.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Fri., Feb. 23, 2018, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Trey Poole officiating. The interment will follow in Stone Lake Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Yoko Girdner of Oak Harbor, WA; a daughter and son-in-law, Montez and Michael Grissett of Andalusia; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Lessie Burks of Robertsdale, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, W. C. Girdner, Jr; her two sisters, Fannie and Ida; and brothers, Edgar, Allison, and Fred.

REBA CHRISTINE EILAND JIMS

Reba Christine Eiland Jims of Portland, Ore., passed away at age 90 on Feb. 6, 2018, of natural causes. She was born on Sept., 14, 1927, in Covington County, Ala.

She is survived by two daughters, Reba Roughton Joby and Emily C. Eaton (Frank) of Portland, Ore; sister, Janice Castleberry of Andalusia; brother, John C. Eiland of Mobile; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Olin Thomas and Bonnie Hartzog Eiland of Mobile; son, Michael Harrelson; brother, Max Eiland of Andalusia; and husband, G. Roy Jims of Mobile.

Christine was baptized at age 13 in a pond on her parents’ property in Loango. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and graduated from Red Level High School in 1946. Christine’s love for music and her religious beliefs led her to play the piano in various churches.

She worked at Andalusia Chamber of Commerce. In approximately 1951, she moved to Mobile and worked a short time as a secretary. Primarily, she was a mother and homemaker. In 2015, she moved to Portland, Ore., to be near her daughters due to declining health.

Burial for Christine was in Lincoln Park Cemetery in Portland, Ore.
