The Andalusia Bulldog (26-5) basketball team is chasing history as they prepare for today’s AHSAA Class 4A Final Four match against the Cordova Blue Devils (25-8) in Birmingham.
“They have two guys that do a good job of scoring and rebounding,” Andalusia head coach Anthony Clark said of Cordova. “We have to do our best to shut their two scorers down, but we can’t lose sight of their role players.”
Cordova has one the top 11 players (Issac Chatman) to watch at this week’s Final Four, according to AL.com.
Chatman is a 6-foot-6 senior that is averaging 21 points and 12 rebounds a game. The senior has offers from Auburn and UAB.
This is Cordova’s second-straight trip to the Final Four.
“One advantage they have over us is that they have been here before,” Clark said. “It’s going to be important for us to control our emotions and settle into the game early. If not, you can lose a game like this in the first three or four minutes of the game. This is probably the best one-two punch we’ve faced all year. We are going to need a defensive effort like we had in the UMS-Wright and Ashford games.”
Clark said he hopes to see many fans make the trip.
“I hope to see a large Andalusia crowd,” Clark said. “They have supported us all season and our guys feed of our fans’ energy.”
Andalusia and Cordova play today at 4:30 p.m.
