Shaw ranked in Top 125 for training

Earns national ranking for 14th consecutive year

Training magazine recently recognized Shaw Industries Group, Inc. as a “Training Top 125 company for 2018.” The recognition marks Shaw’s 14th consecutive year on the list.

Training Top 125 ranks companies’ excellence and commitment to employer-sponsored training and development programs. The Top 125 ranking is determined by assessing a range of qualitative and quantitative factors, including financial investment in employee development, the scope of development programs, and how closely development efforts are linked to business goals and objectives.

Shaw provides more than 1 million hours of training and education annually to its associates — who range from machinists and marketers, scientists and salespeople to designers, nurses and network administrators.

That included more than 2,138 hours of safety training in the Andalusia plant in 2017, Stephanie Fisher, public relations manager for Shaw Industries, said.

“This includes everything from new hire safety training and material handling to emergency preparedness and inclement weather drills,” Fisher said.

In Andalusia, Shaw employs 1,207 associates.

In 2017, Shaw announced that it is investing $184 million in its manufacturing facility in Andalusia, where fiber used to manufacture carpet is created.

Headquartered in Dalton, Ga., the company has annual revenues of almost $6 billion and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc.
