NORMA EVERS SIKES

Ms. Norma Sikes, formerly of Andalusia, died at her home in Tuscaloosa on March 6.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Griffin Sikes. She is survived by their six children, Griff and Ann Sikes, Jr., Margaret S. and Bob Land, Nancy S. (Joel) Dillard, Anne S. and Joe Hornsby, Steve and Lucy Arnold-Sikes, and Clay Sikes (Sharon St. John); grandchildren, Claire Sikes, Carolyn Williams, Ben (Claire) Land, John Land (Luke Gregory), Clay (Lindsay) Dillard, Miriam Dillard (Rich) Stroud, Harper Stroud and Evers Stroud. She also took great joy in her six great-grandchildren.

Norma was born in Opp in 1925 to L.H. Evers and Margaret Danley. She attended the University of Alabama and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, She graduated in 1947 and returned to Andalusia to manage her father’s furniture stores. In 1947, she married Griffin Sikes and continued in that career until the birth of their first child in 1949.

Norma was a member of various charitable and civic organizations in Andalusia, and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia until she and Griffin moved in 2005 to Capstone in Tuscaloosa in order to be closer to their children.

The family expresses gratitude to Tracey Cameron and Godha King for their loving care of Mrs. Sikes.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sikes will be held at the First Methodist Church in Andalusia on Fri., March 9, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held in the church reception hall at 10 a.m. There will be a reception in Tuscaloosa at Capstone Village at 2 p.m., Sun., March 11.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of West Alabama, the First Methodist Church of Andalusia, or the charity of one’s choice.

 

Boyd Jackson Clem III

Mr. Boyd Jackson “Jack” Clem III, 66, of Andalusia, passed away at his residence Wed., March 7, 2018. Mr. Clem moved to the area in 1983, and worked for 10+ years as the production manager at the Andalusia Star-News, a meat cutter at Winn Dixie, and he spent countless hours providing lawn care for many satisfied customers over the years. He described himself as a “Jack of all trades.”

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Laura Clem of Andalusia; his children, Jennifer Clem, Millie (Jeremy Chad) Chaney and Molly Clem Griffin, all of Andalusia; and his grandchildren, Victor Ellis Clem, Tamara Michelle Griffin, Zane Gideon Chaney and Isabella Winter Chaney.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Memorialization is by cremation. Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia is in charge of arrangements.

VELINDA DIANE (LULU) LUNSFORD

Ms. Velinda Diane (Lulu) Lunsford, age 57, of Florala (formerly of Rose Hill), passed away Tues., March 6, 2018, at her residence. She loved hunting Easter eggs and getting (Big One) teddy bears and t-shirts.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters: Bruce (Karen) Lunsford of Dozier, Larry D. Lunsford of Florala, Teddy (Everetta) Lunsford of Heath, Judy (Tom) Jones of Florala, Marta (Bobby) Godwin of Luverne, Sherry (Kenny) Merrill of Gantt, Terry (Diane) Mears of Brantley, and Perry (Kimberlynn) Mears of Dozier.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Fri., March 9, 2018, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel of Andalusia with the Rev. Gary Holloway officiating. Interment will follow at Good News Chapel Cemetery in Rose Hill. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Godwin, Tom Jones, Zack Lunsford, Kenny Merrill, Kevin Lunsford, Mike Lunsford and Brandon Jeter.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral services at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel, 10-11 a.m. on Fri., March 9, 2018.
