WALTER OTTO DUEBELT

Walter Otto Duebelt passed away on Fri., April 6, 2018, at his home in The Woodlands. He was born on June 18, 1935, in Hamburg, Germany.

The visitation was at Foreman’s Funeral Home on Tues., April 10. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. on Wed., April 11, at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jason Thrower officiating.

The burial will follow at the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Left behind to cherish Walter’s memories are his loving wife of 46 years, Paula Sue Cook Duebelt; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve Carl Duebelt and Lisa Crowell Duebelt of Dothan; a daughter-in law Geraldine (Jay) Picerro Duebelt of Girard, Ohio; and two brothers, Hinrich Duebelt (Karin) and Wolfgang Duebelt of Germany. His grandchildren are Rochelle Duebelt McKenney (Scott), Jodi Hanchey Ream (Matt), Steve Duebelt (Danielle), Lena Duebelt Enyeart (Jess), and Robby Duebelt. Great-grandchildren are Gage Potter, Ethan McKenney, Kyler Ream, Kinsley Ream and Kason Ream.

Walter is also survived by his family of the heart, Karen Seymour Doulin, Melanie Doulin, Jamey Doulin, and Nicolas Dylan Doulin.

Preceding Walter in death were his parents, George and Gertrude Duebelt, and his beloved son, Roberto George Duebelt.

The pallbearers will be the grandsons: Dylan Doulin, Jamey Doulin, Robby Duebelt, Steve Duebelt, Scott McKenney, and Matt Ream.

Walter grew up in Germany. After completing his schooling and due to the lack of adequate housing in Germany after World War II, Walter knew it was in his best interest to leave Germany and create a new life elsewhere by utilizing his talents in cooking.

Traveling the seas and visiting many seaports worldwide, Walter completed his apprenticeship to be a chef as a Merchant Mariner for a German shipping company. During his travels Walter fell in love with America and knew that was where he wanted to rear his family.

His journey to America began with his first land job as a chef at The LaSalle Hotel in Montreal, Canada, where he earned several awards for his dishes and formed a special friendship with the manager, Joch, who later helped bring Walter’s American dream to life. In 1964, Joch opened a Holiday Inn in Niles, Ohio, and vouched for Walter, legally bringing him into America as his chef. Several months later, Walter relocated his position as a chef to Squaw Creek Country Club, which was at the time a private Jewish club, where he expanded his cooking talents for 13 years and met his loving wife, Paula Sue. On August 17, 1971, Walter and Paula were married. In 1976 an opportunity arose that brought Paula back home and Walter to manage the Andalusia Country Club for 25 years.

Walter was very patriotic and truly believed in America. On July 27, 1984, both he and his son Steve became Naturalized U.S. Citizens.

Loving music himself, Walter was an avid supporter of Paula’s musical productions and befriended many of her students. The couple also opened their home to many exchange students and became life-long friends with them. In his retirement, Walter enjoyed travel with Paula and was a faithful member of a prayer group for many years.

Walter Duebelt was a very well-respected member of the community who was known for his gentle, kind demeanor. He was one who always treated others with respect and would help anyone at a drop of the hat. He received a commendation from the Alabama House of Representatives for his volunteer and community service, was a member for many years in the Rotary Club where he earned the Paul Harris Fellows Award, and was recognized throughout the years in various outstanding professional and volunteer services. Walter will be missed by many.

In closing, Walter would say, “Have a good day . . . and a blessed one.”

LOIS COLVIN GIBSON

Mrs. Lois Colvin Gibson, 93, of Andalusia, formerly of Red Level, passed away Mon., April 9, 2018, in Crestview, Fla..

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thurs., April 12, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Brother David Leach officiating. The interment will follow in Vera Cruz Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday at Foreman Funeral Home.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Wayland and Sue Colvin of Andalusia; her grandchildren, John and Beth Colvin of Andalusia, Jessica and Michael McVey of Leesburg, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Caleb McVey, John Luke Colvin, Allie Beth Colvin, Mary Rose Colvin, and Corbett McVey.

EUNIVAE BOZEMAN

Mrs. Eunivae Bozeman, 89, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., April 8, 2018, at Andalusia Manor.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wed., April 11, at Cedar Grove Church of Christ with Brother Douglas Williams officiating. The interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation was on Tuesday at Foreman Funeral Home and at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Darrell and Cynthia Bozeman of Pace, Fla., Brett and Cathy Bozeman of Andalusia; one daughter, Elaine Bozeman Mucci of Pace, Fla.; her grandchildren, Leigh Ortiz, Lauren Smith, Daniel Bozeman, Josh Bozeman, Tammy Bozeman, Alex Mucci, Erik Mucci, Mallory Mucci; her great-grandchildren, Ashlyn McMullen, Hunter Catrette, Kristen King, Logan Bozeman, Brianna Bozeman, Alayna McMullen, Aric Ortiz, Reedi Bozeman, Tranceton Bozeman; and one great-great grandchild, Triston King.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Reedy Bozeman; and son, Bruce Harvey Bozeman.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Thomasson, Jimmy Bass, Donald Carter, Jody Dillard, Mac Bracewell, and Charles Stokes.

SIBYL W. CHAMBERS

Overseer Sibyl W. Chambers passed away Fri., April 6, 2018. She was the founder and director of Love Abounds Ministry, a non-profit organization with chapters in Covington, Crenshaw and Mobile Counties. She was married to Overseer William T. Chambers who pastored churches in Washington, Clark, Covington and Crenshaw Counties, of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Overseer Sibyl was a co-founder, with her husband, of Koinonia Family Worship Center in Creola.

Celebration of Life services are Thurs., April 12, 2018. Wake begins at 10:30 a.m., and funeral services at 12 p.m. All services will be held at Nazaree Full Gospel Church, at 1695 W I-65 Service Rd. N., in Mobile.
