Tigers end season on strong note

The Straughn Tigers capped off the season with a 6-4 victory over New Brockton on Monday night in Straughn.

Straughn jumped out front in the bottom of the first inning.

Trystian Barber doubled to start the inning and moved to third when Chandler Mitchell reached safely.

Barber then came around to score off of an error and Mitchell moved around to third.

A few pitches later, Mitchell scored off of a passed ball.

New Brockton clawed back in the top of the second inning with three runs off of two hits.

Barber got things rolling with a double to start the bottom of the third inning.

Mitchell then reached off of an error by the New Brockton third baseman.

Clay Ashberry made the error sting as he blasted a three-run homer to put the Tigers on top 5-3.

Ashberry’s sixth home run of the season leads all Covington County batters.

New Brockton got one run back in the top of the fifth inning following a single and an error by the Tigers.

In the bottom of the sixth, Mitchell Schultz started the frame with a double to center field.

Schultz then took advantage of an error by the Gamecocks as he came around to score the final run of the game.
