The Andalusia Bulldogs absolutely dominated the Thomasville Tigers Monday night as the Junior varsity won 4-1 and the varsity won 8-0.

The Bulldogs were able to blow out the Tigers in their final regular season game and area competition to clinch the area title.

To get the show started, Kiki Wain drew a foul from a ball that was put over the top of the defense earning him a direct kick. He then put it straight in the corner of the goal to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.

A couple of minutes after that goal, another ball went through the defense and Wain was there to put it past the Tigers’ goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

The Tiger defense struggled with the speed of Wain as Gage Theus perfectly assisted Wain to earn a hat trick for the night making it 3-0.

The Bulldog offense did not let up as Theus dribbled through several defenders before putting away a goal himself making it 4-0.

Without giving the Tigers a chance to rest, Theus made another run and chipped the Tiger’s goalkeeper to make it 5-0.

The Tigers showed a little life as they made a run downfield, but it was soon put to an end. David Turner dribbled through the Tigers’ defense and put a shot in the lower corner to make it 6-0 at the end of the half.

The Bulldogs were able to show off their ball skills as Theus did a “maradona,” a move in soccer that is named after Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona, around three of the Tigers’ defenders and passed a through ball to Wain who easily put the shot away to make it 7-0.

Reese Burkhardt was able to showcase his speed as he sprinted down the sideline and buried the ball in the lower corner of the goal to make it 8-0.

The Tiger’s offense did not see much of the ball the entire game, and the Bulldogs did not ease their attack as Thomas Barr and Emily German put a couple of shots on goal.

Wain led the scoring tonight with four goals.

“It was nice being able to get a good team win before playoffs,” Wain said.

This being Wain’s senior year, he is looking to play soccer at the next level.

“After this season ends, I will hopefully have a lot of people looking at me,” Wain said. “If nothing happens, then I will go to the University of West Alabama.”

Head coach Jarrett Williamson has been pushing his team from the very beginning.

“We have been struggling all season trying to find the right rotation of where players play best at,” Williamson said. “But these past three games we have really found what works best for us.”

Williamson said that the team has a great group of leaders that are stepping up.

“I remind the kids that we need to act like championship teams do,” Williamson said. “We need to focus on winning practices and focusing on the task at hand.”

The Bulldogs will face Faith Academy on Fri., April 27, in the first round of the AHSAA Playoffs in Andalusia.

“We don’t care who the opponent is,” Williamson said. “We are going to take it one day at a time and one team at a time.”

With the win, the Bulldogs end the regular with a 9-4-1 record and a 6-0 area record.
