Looking to take the state meet
The Straughn and Opp track teams look for strong finishes this weekend as they participate in the Class 3A state track championship in Cullman.
Straughn’s Abigail Thomas qualified for state after posting a 13:22.61 in the girls 3200-meter run.
Leah Thompson qualified for Straughn in the girls discus throw after posting a score of 80-05 in the sectional meet.
Straughn’s Aryanna Billips qualified for state in the girls javelin throw with a distance of 90-01.
Tucker Reynolds and Justin Peeple each qualified for the 14th and 15th spots in the boys 3200-meter run for Straughn.
Straughn’s Ryan Mitchell secured a spot at the state meet in the boys discus throw with a distance of 121-04 at the section meet.
Mitchell’s throw was the sixth best result turned in for Class 3A.
Hunter Stephens qualified for Straughn in the boys javelin throw with a distance of 120-10.
Straughn’s boys 4×400-meter relay team also qualified for state.
The Bobcats’ boys 4×800 meter relay team qualified for state.
Opp’s Maxwell Russell qualified for state in the boys javelin throw with a distance of 132-01.
