Sheriff Dennis Meeks on Tuesday identified the 4-year-old who died Friday and said his department is still awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Meeks said the Department of Forensic Sciences has completed the autopsy and mailed its report to the department. He expects to receive the report today or tomorrow, he said.

The child died Friday, and initial reports indicated her death was heat-related. Meeks identified the child as Layla Dees.

On Monday, Andalusia Superintendent Ted Watson said the child was a student in the system’s Pre-K class at Bright Beginnings this past year.
