Andalusia High School’s Andrew Holmes picked up his first football offer after Birmingham Southern recently reached out to the incoming senior.

“It feels good to finally get my first official offer,” Holmes said. “Maybe now they will start to roll in.”

Holmes said the offer from Birmingham Southern wasn’t something that he expected.

“I was very surprised,” Holmes said. “I was just going driving down the road when the coach called and told me they were going to offer me. It was pretty hard to concentrate on driving after that because I was so excited. We are still excited.”

A few days prior to receiving that phone call, Holmes said another Birmingham Southern coach sent a request for some of his game film.

“I had never really talked with them before one of the coaches asked for film,” Holmes said. “They said they liked what they saw and asked for my number. Then that’s when I got the call that they wanted to offer me.”

His love for the game is what drives him to improve, Holmes said.

“I know in college they are all going to bigger and stronger,” Holmes said. “If I don’t work hard to be the best now, they will all be better that me in college. I’m someone that wants to be the best. That drives me to become a better player at the game that I love so much.”

The 6-foot-2-inch 235-pound offensive tackle said he is ready to get the season started.

“I’m excited about this season,” Holmes said. “My personal season goal is to break my record of 56 knockdowns. I would also like to have at least two more college offers before the summer ends.”

Holmes said he is thrilled with the offer, but isn’t ready to make any commitments at this time.

“I’m going to see what other schools around the area will offer me before I make any decisions,” Holmes said. “I’m hoping that Troy will offer me. Right now, I’m just happy to be where I am.”
