Delphine Lee said she decided to open Tasty Treats Ice Cream in Opp for a simple reason.

“There was not one here, and I love ice cream,” she said.

The shop, opening at 11 a.m. today at 102 W. Covington Ave., will feature hand-dipped Blue Bell ice cream. Lee said she’ll also have banana splits, milkshakes, waffle cones, sundaes, homemade lemonade, root beer and coke floats, as well as novelty ice creams like ice cream sandwiches.

“You can get a milkshake in any Blue Bell flavor, but I’ll also have five signature milkshakes,” she said.

The first is butternut.

“I love butternut cake, and I make a pretty good one, so I wanted to have a milkshake,” she said. “It’s called Msphine’s Butternut.”

Other signature milkshake flavors include Oreo, banana pudding, coconut cream, and peanut butter.

A grand opening is slated for 11 today. Operating hours will be 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sundays.

The shop also has a resource center where people can use computers for job applications. The center has printing capabilities and fax capabilities.
