Rising Florala High School sophomore J.D. Hudson is organizing a 5K to raise money for Children’s Hospital on July 28.

Hudson is a lieutenant governor of District 17 of Key Club.

“My responsibility is raising money for Children’s Hospital of Alabama,” he told the Florala City Council when he requested permission to hold the race. “My idea is to have a color run at Lake Jackson.”

Hudson said he chose the fundraiser because he thought he could serve the dual purpose of raising money for a good cause and bring people to town to participate. The course will be around Lake Jackson.

The fee for the registration is $20 for walkers and $25 for runners.

Participants that register before July 14 will receive a race T-shirt.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category.

Race-day registration will run from 7-7:45 a.m. The race will begin at 8 a.m.

All proceeds will go to the Alabama Children’s Hospital.
