Glenda Campbell, Linda Shelby and Verna Smith, all of Pensacola, pose with Grayson Capps of Willie Sugarcapps. The women love the band, and said they have travelled as far as Europe to hear Capps. They had had praise for the venue.
Some youngsters spent the evening collecting frogs in a galvanized bucket - 19 in all. Then Ivy Godwin passed them out like prizes for all who were willing to take one home.

Rachel Burks, left, demonstrates the Ring Roamer, a new attraction this year at July Jamz. It’s like the ultimate selfie contraption, only someone helps with the photo. Subjects then type a phone number into the screen and immediately receive the photo by text. By walking to a photo booth, they can also get a printed copy at no charge. The Roamer is being sponsored by Main Street Family Care.
Members of the Junior Service League were among the vendors selling treats ranging from fresh watermelon slices to pork skins.

It looked for a half hour or so as if the first 2018 installment of July Jamz might be rained out, but the clouds cleared in time for Willie Sugarcapps (above) to take the stage, and the crowd that gathered was not disappointed.
And while the grown-ups might think the event is about music, kids have their idea of what the annual event holds. Thursday night, they enjoyed catching frogs, playing football, and refreshments, and running.
