In less than a day, Hurricane Beryl went from an area of interest to the first hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season.
According to weather.com, the storm may strengthen more on Saturday, and is increasingly possible Beryl may impact the Lesser Antilles as a hurricane.
Beryl may survive as a tropical cyclone into the central Caribbean early next week.
It was upgraded to a hurricane based on microwave and infrared satellite imagery showing a “pinhole eye” had developed early Friday morning.
The National Hurricane Center said that it is too early to determine exactly where the storm will hit but those in the Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti should monitor its progress.
The National Weather Service is also watching a tropical depression off the coast of the Carolinas.
