Shirley Ann Colbert Edgar

Mrs. Shirley Ann Colbert Edgar, age 65, of Andalusia, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018, at her residence. Mrs. Edgar was the daughter of the late Joseph Colbert and Porta (Hufstetler) Colbert. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to being a homemaker. She loved to paint and her work has been in many homes in Andalusia.

Survivors include her loving husband of 34 years, Douglas Edgar of Andalusia; her sons, Clayton “Poe” (Jennifer) Edgar of Andalusia; Dustin (Jessica) Edgar of Andalusia; Casey Blackwood and Amanda Turner of Andalusia; her grandchildren, Atlas Edgar, Lulu Edgar, Apollo Edgar, Lillie Turner, and Xander Hare; her brothers, Bobby Colbert of Florida and Alvin Colbert of Missouri; and her sisters, Linda Holt and Jeanne Hawkes. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Colbert and Alfred Colbert.

Memorialization by cremation. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

 

KENNETH EDWARD CHILDREE, SR.

Mr. Kenneth Edward Childree, Sr., “Buddy,” age, 75, passed away Sat., July 7, 2018, at his residence.

He was born in Dothan, Ala., to Tullie and Rosa Lee Childree on November 5, 1942. He attended the Andalusia Schools and graduated from AHS in 1961. Ken was affectionately called Buddy by is grandchildren and by many of the local kids that came to know him when he read to children at the elementary school and through many sports activities. He married Alice Boles and the two were married for over 51 years. Ken was a long time member of the Stanley Avenue Church of Christ where he was always willing to do whatever was needed. Over the years, he served as Bible class teacher, song leader, treasurer, and even preached when necessary.   The Stanley Avenue congregation was very important to him. He was also an active member of the Rescue Squad for many years. During his professional career, he worked in the lab at the hospital, he was a part owner of the Honda Shop, and was an administrator for DCI Dialysis clinics for many years until his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow, going to the coffee shop, and loved spending time with his special dog Honey.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., today, Tuesday, July 10, at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Ministers Ben May and Luke Moyer will officiate the service. Visitation was from 5:30 p.m., until 7:30 p.m., Monday at Foreman Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Boles Childree of Andalusia; his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth E. Childree, Jr. and wife Leigh Anne of Deatsville, Ala.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristy Childree Nixon and husband Tom of Andalusia; four grandchildren, Kenneth Childree III, “Kacey”, Brantley Childree, Thomas Phillips, Allie Phillips; one sister, Merry Childree of Sanford; a longtime faithful friend, Robert E. “Bob” Bent; and his deeply loved dog, Honey Childree.

Pallbearers will be Kacey Childree, Brantley Childree, Thomas Phillips, Allie Phillips, Mike Craig, Mark Craig, Ryan Mays and Earl Caton.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Stanley Avenue Church of Christ, his coffee drinking buddies and friends of the gun club.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the Andalusia Animal Shelter.
