Straughn looks for big year

The Straughn Tigers look to bounce back from last year’s one-win season with a strong year in 2018.

Straughn will also go back to playing a full 10-game schedule after cutting down to just nine games last year.

The Tigers will open up the 2018 season with a home game against Headlead on Aug. 24.

In 10 previous meetings, the Tigers hold a 7-3 record over Headland.

Straughn won the last meeting 25-14 in 2015.

On Aug. 31, the Tigers hit the road to take on St. James in Montgomery.

St. James holds a 1-3 record against Straughn and won the 2015 meeting 16-6.

Straughn’s only win against St. James came with a 30-27 win in 2010.

The Tigers get in Class 3A, Region 2 play with a home game against county rival Opp on Sept. 7 in Straughn.

Straughn leads the all-time series with a 10-8 record over the Bobcats.

However, Opp has won the last three meetings between the two squads.

Opp won last year’s game 26-0.

The Tigers stay in region play on Sept. 14 with a home game against Slocomb.

Slocomb holds a 4-3 record against the Tigers and have won four-straight wins.

Slocomb won last year’s contest 32-10.

Straughn stays home for the third-straight week on Sept. 21 with a region game against Houston Academy.

The Tigers have won both meetings between the two squads.

Straughn beat Houston Academy 17-15 in 2017 for their lone win of the season and won the 2016 game 41-0.

On Sept. 28, the Tigers take a break from region play with a road game against Daleville.

Daleville holds a 4-3 lead over Straughn in the series.

Daleville won last year’s game 12-7.

Straughn’s last win against Daleville came in 2012 in the first round of the playoffs.

On Oct. 5, the Tigers return to region play with a road game against Geneva.

Geneva leads the series against Straughn with a 6-3 record.

Geneva won last year’s game 14-0.

Straughn returns home on Oct. 12 when Wicksburg comes to town for a region match.

Straughn holds a 4-3 record against Wicksburg, but lost last year’s game 46-0.

The Tigers close out the season with back-to-back road trips.

On Oct. 19, the Tigers travel to take on Providence Christian.

The series between Providence Christian and Straughn is tied 1-1.

Straughn wraps up the season with a region game against on the road against Pike County.

Pike County holds a 5-1 record against Straughn, but the two teams haven’t met on the gridiron since 2008.
