The Hummingbird Landing Apartments had its summer celebration yesterday and manager Lynn Wascom said that they are focusing on trying to fill four vacancies this year.

“We have never had a waiting list, but we have never had so many vacancies before,” Wascom said. “It sort of happened over night, but this is why we are having a summer celebration, to raise awareness that we are still here and have openings.”

After a friend who lives in the community told Shelia Evans about the apartments, she found that the Hummingbird Landing has a very homey feeling to it, and decided that she will sign a lease on Monday.

“I feel like you can meet a lot of other people here,” Evans said. “It is a very good community and I think that it is going to be wonderful.”

Janie Scroggins, Charron Stypes and Pat Deurmire already live in the apartment complex and said that it was peaceful quiet and convenient.

The Hummingbird Landing opened in 2016 and is a community for people 55 and older.

The facility offers one-bedroom, one-bath or two-bedroom, two-bath apartments. Each apartment features vinyl flooring, and washer/dryer connections, but there are also washer/dryer facilities in each building. The apartments also include garbage disposals, ice makers, appliances, nice closet space and a patio or balcony.

“There is a qualification process and you have to be 55 to live here,” Wascom said. “There are also some income restrictions, but mostly every one who goes through the qualification process is able to live here.”

The Hummingbird Landing is located on Moore Road in Andalusia.
