High school football is just around the corner

Here we are just a few short weeks away from the start of the 2018 high school football season and I can hardly wait to kick off the season.

This should be a very interesting season for all of Covington County’s football teams.

Andalusia lost a lot of talent that helped lead them to the Class 4A semifinals the past two seasons, but the Bulldogs still have plenty of talent on the roster to make another playoff run in 2018.

Opp has been in the process of rebuilding, but should have the players in place to get back into the playoffs in 2018.

Straughn is also among the teams that have been rebuilding the past few years and will continue to grow into a talented team in 2018.

Outside of Andalusia, Pleasant Home was the only team in Covington County to make the playoffs in 2017.

The Eagles have a lot of holes to fill this year, but should be able to make it back to the playoffs in 2018.

The team I believe will turn the most heads in 2018 will be the Florala Wildcats.

Florala’s offense is leaps-and-bounds ahead of where they were last year when they put up more than 300 offensive points in just nine games.

I look for the Wildcats to make the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.

Red Level is among the county teams that have been in rebuild mode over the past few seasons. I see the Tigers making a big jump in 2018 after not winning a game in 2017, but it’s going to be tough for Red Level to get into the playoffs in the region that they play.
