Annual fish fry for Meredith’s Miracles next week

Meredith’s Miracles is gearing up to host its annual fish fry next weekend, and the organization is looking for volunteers to contribute to the accompanying bake sale.

Executive Director Kylie Spears said the traditional fish fry includes catfish, cheese grits, French fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies, drink and dessert.

“This is just as important as any of our other fundraisers,” Spears said. “We help people with needs year round.”

The organization, which helps parents with non-medical expenses when their children need specialized care out of town, also raises money through its Cookies with Characters event, and the annual Meredith’s Miracles Valentines Store.

One of the best things about the annual fish fry, Spears said, is the fellowship.

“It’s great to go out to dinner for a good cause, and get to visit with people of all ages,” she said. “We have a bunch of teenagers who volunteer with us lined up to help. And the food is wonderful.

“Russell McGlamory has always cooked the cheese grits, and Men’s Brotherhood from Southside Baptist cooks the fish. They’ve helped us every year we’ve had it, and we couldn’t do it without them.”

The timing is calculated, she said.

“We do this the first week of school, because by Friday, parents and teachers are exhausted, and don’t want to cook. They can get a plate to go home, or sit down and eat with us.”

Patty Ashworth is organizing the bake sale, and asks volunteers willing to contribute to call her at 428-7001, or communicate with her via Facebook Messenger.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, and are available at Harold’s and at CCB Community Bank. They also are available at the door.

The event is set for 5 until 8 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 10, at the Southside Baptist Church family life center.
