The Covington County Sheriff’s Department is currently on the scene investigating a homicide that occurred on Hayslette Bridge on Oakey Streak Road.

Sheriff Dennis Meeks said that the victim, a male, was shot, but they do not know how many gunshot wounds the body may have.

“It may be one it may be two or three, we don’t know,” Meeks said. “We will send the body to forensics so they can get a better look at it.”

Meeks did confirm that the victim died on the scene.

Meeks said that they are questioning one individual at this time and that at least one arrest will be made today.

“There could be more people involved,” Meeks said. “But at this point, we just don’t know.”

Meeks said that investigators believe that the murder weapon was thrown in the Patsaliga Creek so Opp Fire Department’s Search and Rescue team is on the way to search for it.

Meeks asks that citizens avoid the area, as the investigation is still ongoing.
