A 2-year-old girl became the second child to die in a hot car in Alabama this summer after she was left alone in a vehicle by her mother in Huntsville on Friday.

The first death occurred in Andalusia in May when a 4-year-old died in a hot vehicle. Her mom, Erica Dees, 30, was charged with criminally negligent homicide in July.

Alabama ranks #13 in the nation based on the number of child hot car deaths with 23 fatalities since 1995.

At least 36 U.S. children have died in hot cars in 2018

Last year there were a total of 42 pediatric vehicular heatstroke deaths in the United States and four of those were in Alabama.
