Elba Tigers down Opp in shootout

The Opp Bobcats and Elba Tigers came out firing on all cylinders, but it was the Tigers who were able to come away with a 53-33 victory on Friday night in Opp.

Elba scored first on a high punt snap.

Opp scored their first touchdown on an Erik Matthews 76 yard reception for a 7-6 lead.

Elba then scored again to go back on top 13-7.

Ashton Patel ran in from 6 yards out to put Opp back in front 14-13.

The first quarter ended with Elba retaking the lead on the following kick off for a 20-14 Tigers advantage after one.

Elba extended their lead to 26-14 when they scored midway through the second quarter.

Opp responded with a touchdown pass to Lane Ballard for 25 yards to pull the Bobcats to within five at the half 26-21.

Opp took the opening kick off of the second half for a score.

Ashton Patel went 83 yards for the touchdown to give Opp the lead by one 27-26.

Elba then retook the lead 34-27 on a 1-yard run on their next possession.

Opp pulled to within one on a Hal Smithart 31-yard touchdown run.

Opp was behind by just a single point until Elba scored to go ahead by eight.

The young Bobcats allowed the final two Elba scores on special teams.

The Tigers returned an 80-yard punt return for a score.

The only points of the fourth quarter were scored by the Tigers after a fumble deep in Opp’s territory led to a scoop and score for two yards.

The Tigers won 53-33.  Opp will play at Straughn next Friday.
